We are excited to announce a unique opportunity to join our Major Projects Finance Team and support the strategic delivery of major rail infrastructure projects that are transforming South East Queensland.  As part of the team, you will provide strategic financial advice and commercial support across major projects, including the Cross River Rail Project, New Gold Coast Stations, Logan to Gold Coast Rail, the Wave and other key growth projects.

 

 

Your opportunity

 

The Senior Cost Controller (AS6) plays a key role in managing and controlling cost performance across various projects within Queensland Rails Major Projects team.  You will work closely with project delivery teams to ensure that costs are accurately forecasted, monitored and reported, provide financial analysis and coordinate budgets.  You will also play a critical role in liaising with external stakeholders to ensure that third-party delivered projects, such as Cross River Rail and Gold Coast Faster Rail, monthly costs are accurately invoiced and promote governance and compliance.

 

In addition to hands-on cost control, the role helps improve reporting and processes across the portfolio, that supports data visualisation and automation through tools such as PowerBi and mentor cost control team members to build capability.

 

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain best-practice processes for project budget management, planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Provide advice and support on cost management procedures to ensure transparency and accuracy of project costs.
  • Support project estimating, budgeting, cash-flow planning, and forecasting processes.
  • Coordinate project change requests and contingency drawdowns.
  • Manage end-to-end cost processes including accruals, invoice validation, and SAP R3 compliance.
  • Conduct audits and reconciliations to ensure data accuracy.
  • Engage with engineers, managers, and stakeholders to validate asset data and ensure accurate accounting.
  • Conduct site visits and walk-arounds with Project Managers to support asset onboarding.
  • Assist the Fixed asset team in identifying and transferring project costs to assets that are being commissioned into operations

What We’re Looking For

 

  • Proven experience in project cost planning for large, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of financial and project management systems, ideally SAP R3.
  • Ability to interpret, analyse, and report complex cost and schedule data with accuracy and clarity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including use of BI tools (e.g., Power BI) for reporting and data analysis
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the confidence to challenge assumptions and influence outcomes.
  • Someone outgoing, supportive and collaborative, comfortable engaging with engineers, managers, and diverse teams on-site.
  • Effective influencing and stakeholder engagement skills with ability to build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders across other government stakeholders.
  • A solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

Remuneration & Employment Type

 

This is a full-time, fixed-term position based in Brisbane CBD, concluding on 30 June 2031. The role offers a starting salary of $135,199 plus 12.75% superannuation, along with hybrid work options to support a healthy work-life balance.
