Our Queensland Rail Travel network is proud to connect communities throughout the state. We deliver unique tourism experiences in some of Queensland’s most picturesque locations. Our long-distance train services provide critical connections to family, friends, holidays, work and medical care.
Your opportunity
This is a permanent full-time position based at Queensland Rail Regional Catering Unit located at Bowen Hills.
Our Catering Operations team play an integral role in providing a high-quality catering service and produce over 5000 meals per week for our customers on board our long-distance travel trains.
As the Manager Catering, you will lead a high performing team of twenty in the delivery of improved systems, projects, product innovation, and compliance frameworks across the catering operations of Onboard Customer Service for our long distance services.
Purpose that Counts. A Manager of Catering contributes to making a meaningful contribution by:
- providing leadership through effective planning, project formulation, customer and business partnerships, and commercial outcomes.
- managing, monitoring, and analysing the financial performance and assets to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
- actively participating as a member of the Leadership Team to achieve key performance targets and develop initiatives that grow the catering business.
- leading and managing the development of HACCP-based food safety systems in compliance with legislative requirements.
- overseeing the development, implementation, and control of onboard food and beverage menus to ensure nutritional value, value for money, and variety.
- leading and coordinating the implementation of system enhancements, training development, onboard compliance, and auditing processes.
- managing kitchen, operational and purchasing staff, ensuring a cohesive and efficient team.
- assisting in the training of catering items, menu and special dietary requirements for onboard staff.

We are looking to connect with someone who ideally has:
- strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities at once within a fast-paced operational environment.
- previous experience in leading and managing a multi-faceted food and beverage business, including high-volume catering operations.
- strong people/employee management skill and experience in managing a diverse team.
- the ability to foster strong relationships as well as communicate and negotiate effectively across a large organisation.
- extensive skill in identifying, developing and implementing initiatives for productivity, efficiency and safety.
- previous experience in conducting food safety audits.
- extensive knowledge of Food Safety Legislation and HACCP-based food safety procedure.
- strong budget management skills for financial sustainability.
