About the Role:

As a Business Development Associate, you’ll join the  Brisbane (Meanjin) sales team and work with colleagues in Cairns.

Your role is to help grow revenue and patronage numbers by promoting Queensland Rail’s travel and tourism products, while finding new and effective ways to engage with the evolving tourism industry. This role suits someone who brings fresh perspective, challenges traditional approaches when needed, and sees opportunities around every curve.

As a regional ambassador for Queensland Rail Travel and its train product brands, you’ll build supportive, productive relationships across the travel and tourism sector — helping to shape how rail travel is understood and sold, while contributing to the successful delivery of strategic Travel and Tourism customer projects.

This is a permanent full-time position based in Brisbane, with some work outside regular hours (this may include evenings or weekends) and regular travel (including by train) within Queensland (and occasionally interstate).

Purpose that counts – What you’ll be doing.

  • Manage and grow sales accounts to deliver revenue and patronage outcomes
  • Build strong and influential industry partnerships through collaboration, regional insight, training and product guidance
  • Contribute market insight and commercial thinking to the development and delivery of contemporary sales plans
  • Analyse market trends and customer behaviour to identify and develop new business opportunities and solve problems
  • Design and deliver compelling and knowledgeable sales and product presentations for trade, industry and customer audiences
  • Maintain accurate reporting and insights, including KPIs, industry activity, project outcomes and engagement performance

We’re looking to connect with someone who brings both commercial capability and contemporary tourism thinking.

You’ll have:

  • Proven sales or business development experience within the tourism industry or a closely related sector
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian travel market, with existing industry relationships highly regarded
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and support stakeholders
  • Experience delivering sales outcomes and representing brands positively at trade and consumer events
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to turn insight into action
  • A current ‘C’ class Driver Licence

 

And you’ll be someone who:

  • Is proactive, commercially curious and motivated to learn and keep pace with a changing tourism landscape
  • Enjoys working in environments where collaboration, initiative and adaptability matter
