Your Opportunity

Queensland Rail is seeking an experienced Digital Security Adviser to join the Information Security and Governance division in a permanent role. This is a key opportunity to help shape and strengthen Queensland Rail’s digital security posture across the enterprise

In this role, you will contribute to the development, uplift and implementation of Queensland Rail’s Digital Security Architecture Framework. You will perform comprehensive digital security assurance activities to ensure risks are identified, assessed and managed effectively, supporting the protection of critical systems, information and services.

You will work across both Digital Security Architecture and Security Assurance, contributing to a wide range of activities spanning strategic design through to practical risk assessment. As part of a small, collaborative team of approximately six specialists, distributed across architecture and assurance, this role offers strong exposure, shared accountability and the opportunity to influence outcomes across the full security lifecycle

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of Queensland Rail’s digital security architecture, including frameworks, standards, policies, roadmaps and technical guardrails aligned to industry best practice.
  • Execute in‑depth security assurance activities to assess and verify that digital security controls, mechanisms and processes are effectively designed and deployed in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead phishing simulation campaigns and security awareness initiatives, analyse threat intelligence and emerging risks, and support the communication of critical vulnerabilities and security threats across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the uplift of digital security capability by sharing technical insights, supporting the development of advanced security solutions, monitoring emerging technologies and recommending security enhancements.

About you:

  • Extensive knowledge of recognised security standards and frameworks, including CIS, ISO/IEC 27001, and the NIST Cyber Security Framework, with the ability to apply them pragmatically.
  • Substantial experience in the design, assurance, and risk assessment of secure information systems, including conducting digital security threat and risk assessments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships, exercise sound independent judgement, and clearly communicate security risks and recommendations to both technical and business audiences.
