Your Opportunity


Queensland Rail is currently seeking an experience GIS Analyst to join our Strategy and Planning team in a fulltime permanent position as a Senior GIS Analyst. This is an exciting and pivotal time in our digital transformation journey as we accelerate the delivery of smarter, faster, and more integrated ways of working. This is your opportunity to lead the next evolution of GIS across the business.

 

In this role, you’ll report to the Digital Engineering Manager – who also serves as the Spatial Intelligence Product Owner within a newly established enterprise-wide initiative, with executive level sponsorship.  This is a dedicated initiative for technology-driven innovation, with a mission to lead the way in digital excellence by embracing emerging technologies and building the organisation’s digital capability.

 

As a Senior GIS Analyst, you'll help shape the strategic direction of spatial capability at Queensland Rail. You’ll lead the development of geospatial systems, improve spatial data quality, and embed GIS as a critical enabler of decision-making, asset intelligence, and operational efficiency. This is more than a technical role — it’s a chance to work closely with digital leaders, influence enterprise transformation, and contribute to a long-term digital vision that puts spatial intelligence at the centre.

You'll also play a key role in embedding GIS into broader digital workflows such as BIM, IoT, asset management, and real-time analytics, ensuring spatial data is not only trusted but also actionable.

 

In this role you will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of best practice GIS methodologies, standards, and governance across Queensland Rail.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise GIS platforms, spatial databases, and services using the Esri suite.
  • Deliver high-quality spatial products, analysis, and visualisations that support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Integrate GIS with broader digital initiatives including asset management (SAP), BIM, IoT, and real-time data solutions.
  • Champion spatial data integrity, automation, and innovation through scripting (e.g. Python, ModelBuilder) and modern tools.
  • Act as the technical lead for GIS, providing guidance to peers and mentoring junior team members.
  • Collaborate across Digital Engineering, ICT, projects, and operational teams to deliver scalable geospatial solutions.
  • Contribute to the success of a cross-organisational digital transformation program

About you:

  • Proven experience delivering enterprise GIS solutions in complex, asset-intensive environments.
  • Expertise in Esri technologies including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and AGOL.
  • Strong spatial data modelling, database management, and system integration expertise (e.g. SAP).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities, with a focus on actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead GIS initiatives and manage spatial standards, data quality, and workflows.
  • Familiarity with automation and scripting tools such as Python, FME, or ModelBuilder.
  • Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • A passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and contributing to broader digital transformation outcomes.
