Queensland Rail’s Legal, Right to Information and Privacy (LRP) Team is excited to announce that we are looking for a Legal Counsel (3+PQE) who is eager to grow their career and make a significant impact within our organisation. This role offers the chance to work closely with senior legal staff and other professional staff on a variety of legal, right to information and privacy matters, providing a unique opportunity for professional development and advancement.
Your Opportunity
As a Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in helping us comply with all legal requirements as well as review, draft and manage legal documents or advice in relation to Queensland Rail’s activities.
Your work will directly influence the trajectory of Queensland Rail’s operations and strategies, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to projects that shape the future of Queensland’s transportation infrastructure. This role offers the chance to immerse yourself in a diverse array of legal issues, from commercial and contracts law to regulatory compliance, ICT, procurement, corporate governance, disputes and competition matters. A background in right to information and privacy matters would be desirable but not essential.

What We’re Looking For:
- Dynamic Legal Professional: An individual with a robust and adaptable legal background, including private practice and in-house experience. Demonstrated drafting and negotiation of contracts including commercial, ICT and infrastructure contracts as well as experience in managing regulatory and dispute resolution issues.
- Team Collaborator: A lawyer who excels in a team environment, bringing innovative solutions and a proactive approach to legal challenges and responds well to managing a variety of concurrent matters.
- Strategic Thinker: Someone who possess a sharp analytical mind, capable of foreseeing and mitigating legal risks while supporting the company’s vision and values.
- Self-Starter: Someone who will be motivated and thrive on the opportunity to manage a diverse workload and learn about new areas of the law.
- Commercially minded: A lawyer who is able to develop pragmatic, cost-effective commercially based legal advice to assist the business.
Pre-Employment Qualification:
To be considered for this position, you must hold a current Practising Certificate in Queensland (or be able to obtain one) and will be required to provide a certified colour copy of your legal qualification before an offer can be extended.
Remuneration & Employment Type
This is a permanent, full-time position based in Brisbane CBD. The role offers a salary of $155,000 plus 12.75% superannuation, along with hybrid work options to support a healthy work-life balance.
