We’re looking for an influential and forward thinking Manager Regional Rail Safety to lead the development, governance and continuous improvement of rail safety controls across Queensland Rail’s Regional network. This is a key leadership role that blends strategic oversight, expert technical guidance and strong stakeholder engagement to ensure safe, reliable operations that meet legislative, organisational and regional performance expectations.

 

As a senior member of the Regional Safety, Risk & Services leadership team, you will shape and support the safe working framework that underpins how our people work safely every day.

Purpose that counts. Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide strategic rail safety leadership, shaping the design, development and monitoring of safeworking systems and safety management controls across Queensland Rail’s Regional operations.
  • Lead the ongoing review and continuous improvement of operational rail safety documentation, ensuring it remains current, practical and aligned with risk based principles.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the effective integration of rail safety frameworks across the organisation.
  • Partner with senior leaders to enable effective planning, change management and implementation of safety critical initiatives.
  • Act as the organisation’s Regional rail safety SME, providing authoritative guidance on emerging risks, rail safety performance, incident prevention, and industry best practice.
  • Champion a proactive, engaged and accountable safety culture aligned to Queensland Rail values.
  • Lead, coach and develop team members to deliver high-quality outcomes and build organisational capability.

 

We are looking to connect with someone who has:

You will bring a strong blend of strategic leadership, deep technical expertise and exceptional stakeholder capability, including:

  • Extensive knowledge of rail safety legislation, safeworking systems, risk management frameworks and contemporary industry practices, ideally within a large, complex operational environment.
  • High-level leadership capability with demonstrated success in leading teams, lifting capability and guiding people through change.
  • Strong influencing and engagement skills that enable productive relationships with technical specialists, senior leaders, operational teams and industry bodies.
  • Expertise in the design, implementation and governance of organisational safety systems, including the ability to evaluate risk, interpret obligations and drive practical solutions.
  • A values-driven approach that aligns to Queensland Rail’s commitment to safety, collaboration and continuous improvement.
