About the Role

 

As the Manager System & Safety Assurance, you will provide strategic leadership across Queensland Rail’s Major Projects portfolio, ensuring system and safety assurance requirements are effectively governed, integrated, and delivered. This is a permanent opportunity based in Brisbane CBD, where you will lead the development and implementation of assurance frameworks, contribute to system design reviews, oversee assurance activities, and ensure new and modified rail systems are introduced into service safely, compliantly, and in line with Queensland Rail’s obligations as an accredited Rail Transport Operator.

 

Working closely with project teams, technical specialists, regulators, and external assurance bodies, you will drive assurance planning, risk management, and governance across complex infrastructure projects. Leading a team of assurance professionals, you will provide expert guidance on system safety, systems engineering, and assurance while fostering collaboration to achieve successful project outcomes and the safe integration of rail assets into QR’s operational network.

 

Purpose That Counts – Some of the responsibilities of the role:

 

  • Lead the development and implementation of system and safety assurance frameworks across Queensland Rail’s Major Projects portfolio, ensuring new and modified assets can be safely accepted into operational service and meet regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Establish and govern integrated assurance planning, ensuring assurance activities, dependencies, evidence requirements, and delivery milestones are effectively coordinated and aligned with project schedules and governance expectations.
  • Provide strategic leadership for Safety in Design, hazard analysis, risk management, and assurance activities, ensuring risks and controls are appropriately identified, assessed, and managed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders while providing expert guidance on system and safety assurance requirements, overseeing assurance outcomes, and driving the resolution of risks and compliance issues to support successful project delivery.

  • You are a highly experienced systems and safety assurance professional with a strong track record delivering assurance, asset acceptance, and systems engineering outcomes within large, complex rail or infrastructure environments.
  • You bring extensive expertise in system safety, hazard analysis, and risk management, with demonstrated experience in resolving complex technical and operational challenges.
  • Your strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities enable you to interpret and communicate complex technical information, providing clear, evidence-based recommendations that support informed decision making.
  • You are a collaborative and influential leader with proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams, building strong stakeholder relationships, and successfully integrating complex systems within operational environments.
