Your opportunity
In this pivotal position, you will oversee the delivery of occupational health assessments for rail safety workers, ensuring compliance with the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers. You’ll partner closely with leaders, employees and external medical providers to deliver proactive health management advice and support.
Your work will directly influence the wellbeing of our people, enhance safety outcomes and strengthen Queensland Rail’s Health and Wellbeing Framework.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage external medical and allied health providers who deliver rail safety medicals and other role specific assessments on behalf of QR.
• Provide expert, evidence-based advice to leaders, employees and other internal stakeholders i.e. human resources, on health-related issues including:
• Compliance with the National Standard for Rail Safety Workers
• Fitness-for-duty cases
• Drug and alcohol management
• Fatigue risk management, and
• Non compensable injuries and illnesses
• Improve and maintain systems, reporting and processes that support Queensland Rail’s Health & Wellbeing solutions.
• Promote health and wellbeing initiatives, including vaccination programs to increase awareness and participation.
• Develop and deliver high-level reporting to demonstrate program effectiveness.
• Ensure accurate and confidential management of employee medical records.
• Contribute to organisation wide wellbeing initiatives as part of a supportive team.
About you:
• You bring a strong background in Occupational Health, Work Health and Safety, Allied Health, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in conducting or overseeing occupational health assessments, ideally within large heavy industry.
• You have excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive positive outcomes.
• You offer specialist knowledge in workplace health and wellbeing, with a sound understanding of relevant legislation, and occupational health frameworks and best practices. Knowledge of the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers, or ability to quickly acquire this, is highly desired.
• You’re highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities and projects, including compliance reporting and documentation.
• You have well-developed analytical, coaching, and problem-solving skills, supported by solid proficiency in Excel and workplace systems to enable informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Allied health, clinical, or medical qualifications are not mandatory but highly desirable.
