There has never been a better time to join Queensland Rail, and we have multiple opportunities across our SEQ network for enthusiastic customer service professionals to join our dedicated Station Customer Service team. As a Porter, you are the face of Queensland Rail and will provide our customers with an extraordinary experience at each and every journey our customers take. 

 

 

These roles work across a 24/7 shift work operational roster, including early mornings, late nights, weekends and public holidays and will require you to work at our CBD locations (Fortitude Valley, Central and Roma St stations)

 


As a Porter at Queensland Rail, you'll begin your career with a competitive pay rate of $38.29 per hour as of March 2025. Beyond this, there's a clear pathway for career advancement. Varied opportunities to suit your lifestyle include:

 

 

  • Full-time fixed-term contracts (up to 6 months), working 76 hours per fortnight
  • The average salary for Porters, based on the roster not including shift penalties, public holidays and overtime is approximately $85,141 plus 12.75% superannuation
  • Casual positions with no set hours at an hourly rate of $38.29 plus 23% casual loading and superannuation

 

 

Proudly representing Queensland Rail, you will be: 

 

 

  • Monitoring, observing, and taking action to ensure the safety and security of people and Queensland Rail property. 
  • Delivering customer service excellence in assisting customers with specific needs, which will involve using wheelchair ramps to board and alight customers. 
  • Maintaining clean and tidy station facilities and surrounds, which will involve some lifting. 
  • Providing a visible presence at the station.  

 

 

 

This is a great role if you are:  

 

 

  • Passionate about delivering outstanding safety minded customer service in a busy station environment  
  • Able to work early mornings, late nights, and weekends, with public holidays offered as required 
  • Confident to work alone at times, across a range of shifts including after hours on our stations and platforms.  

 

 

About you: (what you’ll bring)  

 

 

  • Strong commitment to safety. 
  • Outstanding customer service skills with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Positive, flexible and approachable attitude. 
  • Ability to commit to the required six weeks of essential training 
  • Willingness to apply yourself and problem solve. 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time as well as have the ability to safely lift and move objects as part of your working day. 
  • Have access to reliable personal transport to travel to-and-from work when public transport is not available.
