Your opportunity
There has never been a better time to join Queensland Rail, and we have multiple opportunities across our SEQ network for enthusiastic customer service professionals to join our dedicated Station Customer Service team. As a Porter, you are the face of Queensland Rail and will provide our customers with an extraordinary experience for each and every journey they take.
These roles work a rotating shift roster, including shifts commencing as early as 4:00am, late night shifts finishing as late as 2:00am, weekends and public holidays. The advertised roles are based within our CBD locations (Fortitude Valley, Central and Roma Street stations), with the potential for additional work at locations across the rail network.
As a Porter at Queensland Rail, you'll begin your career with a competitive pay rate of $38.29 per hour (as of March 2025). Beyond this, there's a clear pathway for career advancement. Varied opportunities to suit your lifestyle include:
- Full-time fixed-term contracts (up to 6 months), working 76 hours per fortnight
- Full-time permanent roles, working 76 hours per fortnight
- The average salary for Porters, working 76 hours per fortnight, based on a roster not including shift penalties, public holidays and overtime is approximately $85,141 p.a. plus 12.75% superannuation
- Casual positions with no set hours have an hourly pay rate of $38.29 plus 23% casual loading and superannuation
Proudly representing Queensland Rail, you will be:
- Monitoring, observing, and taking action to ensure the safety and security of people and Queensland Rail property.
- Delivering customer service excellence in assisting customers with specific needs, which will involve using wheelchair ramps to board and alight customers.
- Maintaining clean and tidy station facilities and surrounds, which will involve some lifting.
- Providing a visible presence at the station.

About you: (what you’ll bring)
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Outstanding customer service skills with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Positive, flexible and approachable attitude.
- Ability to commit to the required five (5) weeks of full-time initial training
- Willingness to apply yourself and problem solve.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time as well as have the ability to safely lift and move objects as part of your working day.
- Have access to reliable personal transport to travel to-and-from work when public transport is not available.
