About this role:


Joining Queensland Rail’s Major Projects , you will be working as part of the Construction Safety Management Team as a Principal Adviser Construction Safety - Central. This is a key leadership role supporting the safe delivery of major rail infrastructure projects across the Central portfolio.

 

Leveraging your safety, assurance and stakeholder management expertise, you'll provide strategic and operational support across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring contractor and subcontractor activities are delivered safely, compliantly and to the required technical standards.

 

This role is Fixed-Term until 30 June 2030, based in Brisbane CBD. Salaries are between $151k-162k + super.

 

You can expect some of your responsibilities to include: 

 

  • Provide Major Projects leaders and teams with professional advice on the design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of safety management frameworks, plans and behaviours
  • Ensure contractors and sub-contractors comply with construction and safety regulations
  • Conduct workplace audits, observations, and inspections, in accordance with approved assurance processes
  • Oversee the allocation of staff and/or resources to ensure targets and deliverables are achieved in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of WHS Improvement Plans.
  • Implement safety legislative requirements and monitor performance to meet prescribed outcomes.
  • Work with the Projects and Corporate Safety teams to ensure safety processes and procedures utilised within Major Projects align with Queensland Rail standards, policies, procedures.
  • Drive the implementation of safety strategies and systems to improve the safety performance and reporting within Major Projects.
  • Provide input in the SWMS and Work Pack review process to ensure it is fit for purpose.

 

What you can bring to the role:

 

  • Extensive knowledge of WH&S Legislation, Rail Safety Acts and Regulations, Queensland Rail SMS core standards, Safeworking procedures and practices/principles in risk management.
  • Extensive knowledge of Work/trade practices in respect of civil, building, mechanical, and electrical trades including temporary works.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with management and staff and deliver quality safety outcomes.
  • High level of knowledge of enterprise-wide risk management processes, assurance principles and compliance methodologies, relating to WHS, Rail Safety legislation and related ISO standards.
  • High level of skills in investigations and report writing, particularly related to safety incidents and unsafe work practices.
  • Demonstrated experience operating within an alliance environment, collaborating with multiple delivery partners and stakeholders.
