Join our SEQ Business Reporting and Improvement team as a Principal Finance Business Partner – Business Improvement based Brisbane CBD in a fixed term contract until March 2027.
Your opportunity
This is a blended role, combining traditional management reporting & budgeting responsibilities with opportunities to bring curiosity and a commitment to continuous improvement to help shape improved outcomes.
The newly created SEQ Business Reporting and Improvement team has been established to elevate the SEQ Finance team to new heights. By strengthening coordination, deepening collaboration, and bringing greater consistency across our work, we are setting the foundation for meaningful transformation. Together, we will unlock capacity, empower true Business Partnering, and create the momentum that drives our organisation forward.
Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare consolidated management reporting for the SEQ business and contribute towards Corporate and Board pack reporting requirements.
- Support the coordination of budgeting and forecasting activities for the SEQ business. Including preparation of standardised templates, analysis of key assumptions and presentation of outcomes to management.
- Optimise, standardise, and automate reporting & processes within our Finance team for greater accuracy and efficiency.
- Develop process documentation, knowledge articles and guidance documentation.
- Ad-hoc holiday relief coverage for Finance Business Partners. It’s a great way to understand the priority areas for improvement and share what is working well across the teams.
What we're looking for:
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills including influencing, consultation, liaison, negotiation as well as oral and written communication skills.
- Curiosity to gain a deep understanding of the business activities and issues facing large complex businesses.
- Show strong problem-solving and critical thinking with the ability to propose practical, innovative solutions.
- Proven capability in analysing financial performance and providing high‑quality financial commentary and commercial advice in a large, complex organisation.
- High attention to detail whilst comfort working with complexity and ambiguity.
- Experience facilitating workshops and are very confident in your own presentation skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel, SAP ERP (R3), Power BI and Anaplan skills are highly desirable.
- Experience with process improvement methodologies eg Six Sigma, Lean, Agile. Preferred not essential.
- Experience working in large, complex government environments. Preferred not essential.
Pre-employment qualification: Before an offer can be presented, the successful candidate will be required to provide a JP certified, colour copy of the mandatory degree - accounting, business, commerce, finance or other relevant qualification at graduate level.
