The Strategic Integrated Operational Planning and Assurance (SIOPA) team provides mid-to-long-term planning capability, primarily focusing on strategic and tactical business objectives. Within this team, the Strategic Integrated Planning function facilitates integrated planning across SEQ and Regional operations, regularly publishing capacity reports and coordinating capacity planning initiatives. This team plays a critical role in ensuring Queensland Rail's future service delivery aligns with strategic objectives and infrastructure developments. The work done by this team directly influences key business decisions related to Customers, Workforce, Infrastructure, and Rollingstock.

 

 

 

Your opportunity

 

 

As the Principal Integrated Operations Modeller (AS7), you will lead simulation modelling for SIOPA to develop and maintain capacity plans, ensuring alignment with Queensland Rail’s long-term objectives, major projects, and government transport policies.

 

 

This is a front-facing role, requiring the ability to confidently present modelling outcomes to senior leadership, influencing operational and strategic decisions. The Principal Modeller will also provide mentoring and coaching to the Senior Modeller and other team members to support their capability growth and foster a collaborative, high-performing environment.

 

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

 

  • Plan and implement operational capacity planning initiatives to support corporate and inter-agency objectives.
  • Design, develop, test, and execute simulation models to evaluate the impact of operational changes on service delivery.
  • Analyse complex data sets and effectively present insights to senior leadership to support strategic decision-making.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to leverage modelling outcomes, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Establish and execute project management frameworks, including scheduling, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor and oversee project activities involving internal teams, contractors, and consultants, ensuring compliance with budget and performance standards.
  • Represent Queensland Rail at industry and government forums, advocating for operational excellence and innovation.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to team members, supporting their professional development and capability growth.

What We’re Looking For

 

  • Advanced proficiency with AnyLogic (or other simulation tools and modelling software, i.e., Simio, ARENA, SimPy).
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a modelling environment with exposure to operations and logistics, preferably within industries such as rail, mining, ports, or supply chain.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop forecasting models and strategic insights.
  • Expertise in strategic, tactical, and deployment planning across various rail operations.
  • Experience working in an operating business, supporting operations and planning functions.
  • A demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders.

 

 

Remuneration & Employment Type

 

 

This is a permanent, full-time position, based in Brisbane CBD with a starting base salary of $151,359, plus 12.75% superannuation and hybrid work options to support the balance between work and personal commitments.
