About the Role

 

As the Project Controls Manager, you will provide commercial, financial and governance leadership across Queensland Rail's Infrastructure Program. This permanent Brisbane CBD-based role will lead a team of project support professionals to deliver robust project controls, financial reporting, investment governance and performance oversight across a complex portfolio of infrastructure projects.

 

You will bring strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets, forecasting, cost control and business performance reporting while identifying risks and opportunities that support informed decision-making. Working closely with project teams, executives and key stakeholders, you will drive continuous improvement, financial accountability and value-for-money outcomes to support the successful delivery of Queensland Rail's strategic infrastructure objectives.

 

Purpose That Counts – Some of the responsibilities of the role:

 

  • Lead project controls, commercial management and financial reporting activities across a complex infrastructure portfolio, ensuring accurate forecasting, cost control and performance monitoring.
  • Oversee program accounting, investment governance and commercial risk management, maintaining strong financial accountability and compliance with governance frameworks.
  • Deliver timely and insightful reporting on project performance, budgets, risks and key milestones to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide expert commercial and financial advice to project and program leaders, driving value-for-money outcomes, operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships while leading a high-performing team that supports consistent and effective program delivery.

  • You will bring strong commercial and financial management expertise, with demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, governance and business performance reporting within complex project or program environments.
  • Proven leadership experience in a large and complex organisation, with the ability to lead and develop high-performing teams while fostering a collaborative, customer-focused and outcomes-driven culture.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships, influence decision-making and deliver commercially sound outcomes aligned to strategic objectives.
  • Highly developed analytical, systems and process improvement capabilities, with a track record of solving complex business challenges, identifying opportunities for optimisation and implementing best-practice project controls and continuous improvement initiatives.
