About the project

 

The European Train Control System (ETCS) is a digital signalling system being progressively installed to key parts of the South East Queensland (SEQ) rail network.

 

ETCS plays an important part in the future of our rail network, delivering increased safety, capacity, efficiency, and reliability for a sustainable transport network. The project will provide many benefits to our rail network including:

 

  • making our rail network more reliable — which means less disruptions to journeys
  • help us increase the frequency of trains — which means less time waiting for the next service
  • improve the flow of real-time information — so customers always know how and when trains are running
  • provide an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system — ensuring the highest available level of safety, both now and into the future as our network grows
  • future-proof the rail network — it enables increased passenger capacity required for the Brisbane 2032 Games and beyond.

 About this role:

 

Working within Queensland Rail’s MPI team, the Project Director role will see you joining the team to lead the southern ETCS deployment from the Brisbane CBD to the Gold Coast. You will lead and manage the successful delivery and integration of the project. In an ever growing and exciting area of the business now is a great time to join QLD rail and really make your mark!

 

Purpose That Counts - Some of your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Provide leadership, technical and professional guidance to design, planning and delivery teams within the project
  • Manage the delivery of the project in accordance with budgets, schedules, safety targets and project performance measures
  • Provide a high level of reporting to key stakeholders which will include variations to cost. Time or quality risks and agreed deliverables
  • Ensure expected enterprise project management frameworks and governance arrangements are adhered to
  • Lead and provide clear direction and development of the project to ensure delivery of results in highly complex and diverse brownfield environment 

 

People Who Count - What you can bring to the role:

 

  • You must have a high level of skill and experience in leading the strategic direction of a complex major infrastructure project from development to construction
  • Extensive knowledge of rail transport operations including legislation and organisational governance
  • High level of skill in contract negotiation, management and reporting within various delivery models
  • High level of influencing, interpersonal, communication and consultation skills
