Your Opportunity

Queensland Rail has an exciting opportunity for a driven individual with a strong interest and knowledge on safety in the workplace to join our Construction Safety Team as a Project Safety Adviser on a three-year fixed term basis.

As a Project Safety Adviser, you will be a Subject Matter Expert on Workplace Health & Safety and Rail Safety procedures offering support and consultation to the business to ensure compliance standards are upheld.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review all safety documentation submitted by contractors and consultants for compliance with Queensland Rail and legislative requirements and monitor the implementation of control measures for Safe Work Method Statements and obligations specified in Safety Management Plans.
  • Report on construction safety performance by contractors and consultants, and provide recommendations on any unsafe acts, work practices, conditions, procedures or operations ensuring recommendations are implemented.
  • Influence, coach and provide expert advice to leaders on complex safety and risk issues to build safety capability within the project management personnel and achieve safe "best for project" outcomes in Queensland Rail "brownfield" and "greenfield" operational environments.
  • Undertake inspections and audits of contractor worksites, including documentation reviews, to ensure compliance with Queensland Rail’s safety requirements.
  • Assist with incident investigations as required
  • Assist in any audits undertaken into contractor safety management
  • systems, processes and performance.

Roster Information:

Whilst this role is Monday to Friday, on occasion you will be required to work a rostered weekend. Weekend work is planned well in advance, and you will be compensated at penalty rates or day in lieu.

 

What you can bring:

 

  • High level of skill in developing and implementing construction safety and environmental management systems that comply with current legislative requirements and Queensland Rail's Governance and Management Framework.
  • Experience with Tier 1 contractors and major infrastructure projects.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of skill in conducting workplace safety, rail safety audits.
  • High level of skill in developing, maintaining and delivering safety and other training or educational programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary safety and rail safety practices and the ability to apply these practices within the business.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to commit to and work within Queensland Rail's Values and Behaviours.
