Purpose that Counts.

This is a permanent full-time position based in Brisbane. The Project Safety Adviser position is part of our Regional Safety, Risk and Assurance Team and plays an integral role in providing expertise, guidance and advice to support our Regional Projects Group. The main focus of this position will be to ensure that work carried out by contractors meet the compliance with Queensland Rail safety and environment management requirements. 

 

In this role you will report directly into the Manager Safety (North) where you will work closely with another Projects Safety Adviser. You will have the additional support from the Senior Rail Safety Coordinator and three Senior Health and Safety Business Partners who make up the team.  Some of the ways you’ll contribute to meaningful work include:

  • Influencing, coaching and supporting managers to develop appropriate safety strategies and processes to build capability 
  • Reviewing all safety documentation submitted by contractors and consultants for compliance and monitor the implementation of control measures 
  • Reporting on construction safety and environmental performance by contractors and consultants, and provide recommendations on any unsafe acts, work practices, conditions, procedures or operations ensuring recommendations are implemented.
  • Undertaking inspections, audits and incident investigations of construction and contract worksites or safety management systems, processes and performance.
  • Developing and maintaining systems to ensure compliance 
  • Assisting Project Teams with a variety of safety related activities.
  • Some travelling  to regional parts of Queensland will be required – you can expect at least 1 week of travel per month as minimum. You may also be required to work the occasional weekend of night.

People who Count.

The ideal candidate will be motivated self-starter with extensive proven experience of contractor management and stakeholder engagement either in rail, construction or heavy industry and have previously managed work fronts that are governed by multiple facets of legislation. In addition, you will have: 

  • High level of skill in developing and implementing construction safety and environmental management systems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills. 
  • Proven experience in conducting workplace safety, rail safety and environmental related investigations and audits. 
  • High level of skill in developing, maintaining and delivering safety and other training or educational programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary safety and rail safety practices and the ability to apply these practices within the business.
  • Cert IV in Occupational Health and Safety is highly desirable.
