Your Opportunity
The Rail Safety Assurance and Investigations Team is seeking an experienced and confident professional to join us as a Senior Assurance and Compliance Officer. This role is ideal for someone with a strong assurance background and who is passionate about safety, risk, and driving continuous improvement in complex operational environments.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Assurance and Investigations, the Senior Assurance and Compliance Officer is responsible for leading, planning and delivering assurance activities to meet Queensland Rail’s Work Health and Safety and Rail Safety legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements.
You will lead and deliver assurance activities that evaluate the effectiveness of risk controls, provide meaningful insights, and support continuous improvement across the business. The role requires extensive engagement with internal and external stakeholders and the ability to influence outcomes through strong professional relationships.
This position is based in Brisbane CBD. Some travel is required across the Queensland Rail footprint to undertake assurance activities.
Purpose that Counts
As a Senior Assurance and Compliance Officer some of your duties will include:
- Lead and deliver assurance (second line) activities across complex and operational environments
- Support the development and delivery of assurance plans and programs of work
- Assess the effectiveness of risk controls and compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations
- Prepare high-quality assurance reports, including findings, insights and practical recommendations for senior leaders
- Build strong, effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, subject matter experts and regulators
- Contribute to continuous improvement of assurance frameworks, tools and practices and promote these with leaders across the business.
We are looking to connect with someone who ideally will have:
- Demonstrated experience leading and delivering assurance activities within large, complex organisations
- Strong influencing, relationship-building and negotiation skills
- Proven stakeholder engagement across diverse groups
- Ability to analyse data, report meaningful insights and recommend improvements
- Knowledge of Work Health and Safety and Rail Safety legislation and relevant standards
- Current Queensland driver’s license.
