What’s on offer?

  • Salary Range $135,199 - $144,679 (Based on experience) + 12.75% Superannuation
  • Initial 12-month Temporary Full-time position
  • Monday – Friday standard hours roster

 

Your Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Regional Rollingstock Team. In this position you lead a team of 1 and work on project upgrades and renewals that help to move thousands of customers  throughout Queensland each year through services such as the Tilt Train, Kuranda Rail Service and Spirit of the Outback. This role will be based onsite at the Mayne Depot in Bowen Hills.


In this role you will be responsible for providing senior electrical technical support and rollingstock safety and operational advice to Rollingstock Maintenance and other stakeholders for the operation and maintenance of Electrical systems and components. The role will encompass design, construction, and testing of products being integrated into our rollingstock to improve the safety and reliability of our rollingstock.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert technical advice on the maintenance and operation of Queensland Rail’s rollingstock fleet.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, manuals, and procedures in line with legislation and business requirements.
  • Lead investigations and projects to improve rollingstock reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Create technical documentation including scopes, specifications, and design drawings to support maintenance and cost efficiency.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with internal teams and contractors to support operations and continuous improvement.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Recognised engineering qualifications (preferably a Bachelor of Engineering – Electrical)
  • Extensive technical expertise in rollingstock systems, including maintenance, diagnostics, and performance optimisation, with a strong understanding of industry standards and safety legislation.
  • Proven experience in developing engineering solutions, procedures, and implementing new technologies to enhance safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to support, train, and guide technical teams and junior engineers.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and contractors.
