About your opportunity:

As a Senior HV Systems Engineer, you’ll work within our HV Systems Engineering Design Office, contributing to the design and development of traction power systems. While primarily office-based, you’ll occasionally visit substation sites or the rail corridor to oversee implementation and ensure compliance with design standards.

You’ll join a close-knit team where your expertise and leadership will drive the delivery of safe and efficient rail power solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership: Lead the concept and detailed design of traction power systems, including substations and switching devices.
  • Power System Modelling: Conduct load flows, short circuit analyses, and power quality assessments.
  • Design Reviews: Peer-review internal designs and evaluate external submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Technical Support: Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and review updates to isolation diagrams and instructions.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to developing engineers, fostering their professional growth.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent design perspectives in meetings with project managers, drafting staff, and operational teams.

About you:

You’re a proactive, detail-oriented engineer with a passion for delivering high-quality solutions in high-voltage power systems. You’ll bring:

  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience in the design of power systems for traction, with a focus on power system protection and earthing design.
    • Experience in booster transformer and autotransformer networks is highly desirable.
    • Alternatively, experience in medium-voltage distribution networks and will be considered.
    • Modelling skills
  • Autonomous Operation: Registered as a professional engineer and the ability to work independently and supervise junior/developing engineers.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to write clear, concise engineering reports and convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative Approach in meetings, representing design interests cordially and effectively.

 

Mandatory qualifications held at the time of application:

  • Bachelor Engineering Electrical/Electronic Degree.
  • Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ).
