The Strategic Integrated Operational Planning and Assurance (SIOPA) team provides mid-to-long-term planning capability, primarily focusing on strategic and tactical business objectives. Within this team, the Strategic Integrated Planning function facilitates integrated planning across SEQ and Regional operations, regularly publishing capacity reports and coordinating capacity planning initiatives. This team plays a critical role in ensuring Queensland Rail's future service delivery aligns with strategic objectives and infrastructure developments. The work done by this team directly influences key business decisions related to Customers, Workforce, Infrastructure, and Rollingstock.

 

 

Your opportunity

 

We are seeking a Senior Integrated Operations Modeller (AS6) to play a pivotal role in supporting Queensland Rail’s long-term strategic and corporate planning through simulation modelling, forecasting, and operational assessments.

 

In this role, you will develop, execute, and analyse simulation models to assess the impact of operational changes and capacity planning initiatives. Your insights will directly support key decision-making processes and contribute to the future of Queensland Rail’s network and operations.

 

What you will be doing:

 

  • Develop and implement simulation models to support long-term planning, capacity forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
  • Engage with subject matter experts to build, test, and validate operational models that align with Queensland Rail’s corporate strategy.
  • Provide capacity planning advice to key stakeholders, enabling data-driven decision-making at both tactical and strategic levels.
  • Support the development and execution of project management frameworks, including schedules, budgets, and risk management plans.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government bodies and industry groups, to influence strategic planning.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and strategic briefings for senior leaders and governance forums.
  • Assist in managing and coordinating activities of contractors and consultants to ensure project deliverables are met within time and budget constraints.

 

 

This role will be ideal for people who:

 

  • Have some knowledge of simulation modelling and simulation modeling tools (e.g., AnyLogic, Simio, ARENA, Simply).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to apply analytical modelling, data analysis, and forecasting techniques.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to collaborate across various teams and influence strategic planning.
  • Project management experience in a multidisciplinary environment, with the ability to manage risk, budgets, and schedules.
  • Knowledge of planning principles and operational processes within an organisation such as asset management, rail operations, or transport planning.



 

Remuneration & Employment Type

 

This is a permanent, fulltime position, based in Brisbane CBD with a starting base salary of $135,199 plus 12.75% superannuation and hybrid work options to support the balance between work and personal commitments.
