Senior Network Capability Analyst
Brisbane, QLD, AU, 4000
You’ll connect Queensland. We’ll connect you to an amazing career.
Queensland Rail stands on the foundation of true connection, encompassing the relationships we foster within our teams and the communities we serve across the state. For over 150 years, we've been instrumental in linking people and places, and now we invite you to contribute to our proud legacy and shape a brighter, sustainable future.
Your Opportunity
Queensland Rail is seeking a Senior Network Capability Analyst to provide authoritative modelling and simulation expertise supporting the performance, resilience and future growth of the South East Queensland rail network.
In this role, you will lead complex network capability analysis across current and future operating states, providing evidence‑based advice that directly informs service planning, infrastructure investment and network change decisions. You will work closely with planning, operations, infrastructure and asset teams to translate system complexity into clear, defensible insights.
This is a technically senior role suited to an experienced rail modeller who can operate with autonomy, influence outcomes, and maintain high analytical standards in a complex environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and maintenance of end‑to‑end rail network simulation models representing current and future network states
- Deliver absolute capability and capacity assessments integrating infrastructure, signalling, rollingstock and timetable assumptions
- Build, validate and stress‑test concept timetables, including major event and future service scenarios
- Analyse and articulate network constraints related to signalling layouts, junctions, turnouts, stabling access and run times
- Apply robust modelling methodologies to identify true performance limits rather than relying on static assumptions
- Establish and uphold modelling data standards, assumptions and governance to ensure consistency and auditability
- Translate complex modelling outputs into clear operational and strategic advice for senior stakeholders
- Support long‑term planning and investment decisions through multi‑horizon modelling and scenario analysis
- Act as a trusted technical authority, advising stakeholders on the appropriate use and limitations of modelling outputs
About you:
- Proven experience in rail network modelling, simulation or capacity analysis within a complex operational environment
- Strong analytical capability with experience managing, validating and interpreting large, interdependent datasets
- Sound understanding of rail operations, signalling principles, timetabling and infrastructure interactions
- Experience using rail simulation tools such as OpenTrack, TRENO Suite, or equivalent (highly desirable)
- Ability to exercise engineering judgement, challenge assumptions and improve analytical quality
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence through clear, evidence‑based advice
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively across multi‑disciplinary teams
