We are now seeking an experienced Senior Occupational Health Advisor to join our Employee Wellbeing team and play a critical role in supporting the health, safety and performance of our rail safety workers.

Your opportunity 

 

In this pivotal position, you will oversee the delivery of occupational health assessments for rail safety workers, ensuring compliance with the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers. You’ll partner closely with leaders, employees and external medical providers to deliver proactive health management advice and support. 

 

Your work will directly influence the wellbeing of our people, enhance safety outcomes and strengthen Queensland Rail’s Health and Wellbeing Framework. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Manage external medical and allied health providers who deliver rail safety medicals and other role specific assessments on behalf of QR. 
  • Provide expert, evidence-based advice to leaders, employees and other internal stakeholders i.e. human resources, on health-related issues including: 
  • Compliance with the National Standard for Rail Safety Workers 
    • Fitness-for-duty cases 
    • Drug and alcohol management 
    • Fatigue risk management, and 
    • Non compensable injuries and illnesses 
  • Improve and maintain systems, reporting and processes that support Queensland Rail’s Health & Wellbeing solutions. 
  • Promote health and wellbeing initiatives, including vaccination programs to increase awareness and participation. 
  • Develop and deliver high-level reporting to demonstrate program effectiveness. 
  • Ensure accurate and confidential management of employee medical records. 
  • Contribute to organisation wide wellbeing initiatives as part of a supportive team. 

 

What you will bring: 

 

  • Extensive experience conducting or overseeing occupational health assessments, ideally within large heavy industry.  
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary workplace health management principles and emerging wellbeing trends.  
  • Proven contract management, complex case management, and stakeholder engagement skills.  
  • High level communication, influencing, negotiation and coaching skills.  
  • Capability to interpret and apply the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers and the Rail Safety Law, and other relevant legislation, or the ability to rapidly develop this knowledge.  

 

Qualifications: 

 

Allied health, clinical, or medical qualifications are not mandatory but highly desirable.
