Your opportunity

Queensland Rail is seeking a proactive and pragmatic rail safety professional to join our Regional Safety, Risk & Assurance team as a Senior Rail Safety Business Partner. This is a pivotal role for someone with strong operational experience and a passion for driving safety outcomes across the rail network.

 

As a Senior Rail Safety Business Partner, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety of rail operations by:

  • Leading the development and implementation of rail safety and safeworking initiatives and strategies.
  • Providing expert advice on risk-focused rail safety matters and SEMS (Safety and Environment Management System).
  • Coaching and mentoring operational and senior leaders to embed a strong safety culture.
  • Conducting audits, inspections, and post-incident investigations to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to promote rail safety initiatives and regulatory alignment.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a rail safety professional who is:

  • Operationally experienced with substantial knowledge of railway infrastructure and safeworking systems.
  • Strategic and analytical, with a high level of skill in risk assessment, compliance, and safety system design.
  • Collaborative and influential, able to build trust and drive change across diverse teams.
  • Adaptable and innovative, with strong change management capabilities and a commitment to continuous improvement.

 

Backgrounds considered but not limited to:
Experience as a Network Controller, Protection Officer, Train Driver, Operator or similar within the rail industry, or working directly with safety standards by applying or managing them in the field, is highly valued.

 

Remuneration and Work Arrangement
This permanent, full-time role, based in Brisbane CBD or a key regional centre, offering a starting base salary of $135,199  plus 12.75% super and hybrid work options to support a healthy work-life balance.

The role involves occasional travel to provide visible support across teams and maintain effective regional engagement when needed.
