Your Opportunity

Queensland Rail are currently seeking a highly organised and motivated individual to join our SEQ Safety team in the position of Senior Safety Advisor. Our SEQ Safety team are an integral part of managing the safety of our workforce capability in the rail network.

As Senior Safety Advisor your role is to provide expertise and advice to managers, supervisors, contractors and employees in safety legislation through coaching & mentoring and assist SEQ leaders in the delivery of effective risk-based solutions to drive safety improvements


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the business through analysis and evaluation of safety risk management initiatives
  • Conduct regular assurance activities / control checks, through audits and inspections to analyse and report the effectiveness of risk treatment strategies
  • Provide professional advice into the design, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of the QR safety management framework
  • Conduct reviews and provide timely risk-based advice to inform the compliance and assurance program.
  • Provide input into incident investigations, reviews and analysis of incident reports to support risk-based rectification of safety hazards.
  • Provide specialist safety knowledge to SEQ leaders to enable them to implement safe work practices.
  • Facilitate management of change for HSE initiatives by providing advocacy, coaching and support for the flow of information.
  • Provide reports on contractor and consultant safety performance and assist in any audits undertaken into contractor safety management systems, processes and performance.
  • Lead a small team of safety professionals, in providing support and guidance as a professional in the HSE field.

Roster Information:

Whilst this role is Monday to Friday, occasionally you will be required to work a rostered weekend or as part of Standby / On Call arrangement..  Weekend work is planned well in advanced, and you will be compensated as per the Enterprise Agreement in place. 

About you:

We are looking for a highly organised and motivated individual with outstanding communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills. 

  • Previous experience supporting large scale projects where subcontractors are involved.
  • Excellent skills in investigation, analysis, problem solving and attention to detail. 
  • WHS qualification is desirable.
  • Have a strong knowledge of Safety Legislation and Regulations and functioning of the regulatory framework.
  • Be well versed in safety risk management principles, framework and processes together with a high level of strategy research and project management skills
  • Have a strong knowledge in the design and implementation of integrated Safety Management Systems
  • Be confident in your ability to facilitate, consult, negotiate, coach, communicate and build relationships
  • Ability to work in a team environment, sharing knowledge and supporting others in the achievement of team goals.
