Your Opportunity

Queensland Rail are currently seeking a highly organised and motivated individual to join our SEQ Rail Safety team in the position of Senior Safety Advisor. This position is offered as a fixed term contract until 26th June 2026.

As Senior Safety Advisor your role is to provide expertise and advice to managers, supervisors, contractors and employees in Rail safety legislation to deliver effective risk-based solutions to drive safety improvements. This role will support the Safeworking and Incident Response team and liaise with Corporate Rail Safety teams to implement initiatives to drive a reduction in SafeWorking and rail safety incidents.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement safety legislative and Queensland Rail specific requirements related to SEQ and monitor performance to meet prescribed outcomes.
  • Manage safety risk management initiatives inclusive of identifying risks, implementing risk treatments.
  • Conduct regular assurance activities / control checks, through audits and inspections to analyse and report the effectiveness of risk treatment strategies
  • Provide professional advice into the design, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of the QR safety management framework
  • Conduct reviews and provide timely risk-based advice to inform the compliance and assurance program.
  • Provide input into incident investigations, reviews and analysis of incident reports to support risk-based rectification of safety hazards.
  • Provide specialist safety knowledge to SEQ leaders to enable them to implement safe work practices.
  • Facilitate management of change for HSE initiatives by providing advocacy, coaching and support for the flow of information.

About you:

We are looking for a highly organised and motivated individual with outstanding communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills. 

  • Previous experience working in Rail Safety required
  • Cert IV in WHS (advantageous but not required)
  • Excellent skills in investigation, analysis, problem solving and attention to detail. 
  • Have a strong knowledge of Safety Legislation and Regulations and functioning of the regulatory framework.
  • Be well versed in safety risk management principles, framework and processes together with a high level of strategy research and project management skills
  • Be confident in your ability to facilitate, consult, negotiate, coach, communicate and build relationships
  • Ability to work in a team environment, sharing knowledge and supporting others in the achievement of team goals.
