An exciting career opportunity is available to join our QTMP team in the role of Senior Safety and Risk Adviser. This role sits within our team dedicated to working with the Department of Transport and Main Roads and partners to deliver rolling stock and rail infrastructure associated with the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP). 

 

This is a temporary 2 year full-time opportunity, with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high standard of safety support (rail safety and WHS), including risk management and compliance to standards. You will work closely with multiple stakeholders, attend sites, conduct safety assurance checks, develop variety of safety artefacts, facilitate the implementation of new processes from safety perspective, and provide coaching / mentoring to leaders to safely achieve the QTMP project deliverables.

 

This role requires regular weekly site visits to facilitate close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and occasional weekend assurance checks at site.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide professional advice into the design, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of safety and risk management frameworks and plans, inclusive of methodologies, systems, processes and procedures.
  • Develop Queensland Rail project safety documentation and support the implementation of project safety requirements across QTMP.
  • Lead the development and implementation of safety assurance plans.
  • Conduct audits, observations, inspections, documentation reviews and incident investigations, in accordance with approved assurance processes, to ensure compliance with safety, environmental and risk management requirements and provide reports and recommendations for continual improvement.
  • Support the development and implementation of safety risk registers, risk management plans and facilitate risk assessments.
  • Ensure the QTMP teams complies with Queensland Rail safety systems, processes, procedures and practices.
  • Drive the implementation of safety strategies and systems to improve the performance and reporting within QTMP.
  • Provide specialist safety knowledge to the leaders to enable them to implement safe work practices for all workers.

What We’re Looking For

Are you someone with a passion for Safety and up for the challenges of working on complex tasks? To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Ability to work closely with Managers, Supervisors and other key stakeholders to mentor and support them through safety responsibilities and assurance activities.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of Rail Safety Legislation, WHS Legislation, safety issues during rail operations and Safety Management Systems.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills to present to small groups, facilitate risk assessment briefings and present project outcomes in addition to report writing, consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety management systems.
  • High level of skill in conducting risk assessments, incident investigation, safety audits/inspections.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple internal / external stakeholders and to manage conflicting priorities
  • Analytical ability, substantial strategic research and project management skills.
