Your opportunity
We are excited to announce a rare opportunity for two highly experienced Senior Standards Engineers (PT5) to join our Discipline Heads team:
- Senior Standards Engineer - Tracks
- Senior Standard Engineer - Structures
Reporting to the Discipline Head Track & Structures, these roles will be responsible for providing expert technical advice and analysis on standard development and standard compliance.
In this role, you will:
- Review existing technical standards against the asset risks and recommend changes to the standards where required to ensure the risks are managed and draft the changes to the standards.
- Identify requirements for new standards, draft the standards, and manage their development and implementation.
- Consult with representatives for those affected by the standards, running risk assessments in accordance with Queensland Rail policies.
- Provide support to assigned technical committees and committee leadership that develop strategic railway standards.
- Analyse and critically review applications for Type Approvals.
- Analyse derogations, departures and variations to the standards, explore possibilities and recommend authorisation by the Discipline Head Track & Structures.
This is a fulltime, position based in Brisbane CBD. The role offers a starting salary of $160,991plus 12.75% superannuation, along with hybrid work options to support a healthy work-life balance.

What we’re looking for
- Minimum 10 years in civil, structures, or track engineering.
- Ability to meet delivery outcomes and operate with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills to navigate complex discussions and build strong relationships.
- Proactive approach to resolving issues, progressing projects, and ensuring compliance with legal and operational frameworks.
- Confidence to make decisions, defend positions, and apply tact when saying “no” or guiding stakeholders.
- Established professionals who have managed diverse scenarios and can mentor others.
- Current RPEQ Certification or willing to obtain within three months of securing the position
Pre-employment Qualification: To be considered for this position, you must hold a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (a Washington Accord accredited four-year degree in Engineering, or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia) and will be required to provide a certified colour copy of your qualification before an offer can be extended.
