As a Senior Traction Power Engineer, you’ll play a key role in providing technical and safety assurance for the construction, operation and maintenance of our 25/50kV Traction Overhead System. About the Role

 

In this important permanent Senior Traction Power Engineer role, you will provide specialist engineering support across Queensland Rail’s traction power network, ensuring our overhead line assets are safe, compliant and performing reliably. You’ll deliver first and second line assurance, support construction and commissioning activities, and contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and technical documentation.

 

You will collaborate closely with Principal Engineers, project teams and operational stakeholders, supporting activities that interface with Network SEQ and contributing to the continuous improvement of traction power systems and processes.

 

You will also have the opportunity to support major operational and construction programs across the network.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

• Provide technical support and electrical safety advice for day‑to‑day construction, maintenance and operational activities

• Investigate fault scenarios and lead engineering sign‑off processes, including participation in on‑call duties

• Monitor and report on traction equipment performance, recommending strategies to improve reliability

• Deliver first and second line assurance for traction power maintenance activities in alignment with QR standards

• Review and audit maintenance techniques, documentation and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement

 • Assist Principal Engineers in developing and auditing maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and Standard Work Activities

• Support the Traction Power Construction team through inspections and commissioning activities to ensure operational readiness and compliance

 

What We’re Looking For

 

• Bachelor of Electrical Engineering  

• Extensive knowledge of traction distribution design, standards, quality processes and document control

• Strong understanding of traction power construction and maintenance activities • Extensive knowledge of traction safeworking, testing, commissioning and design alteration

• High‑level skill in fault investigation, engineering sign‑off and operational recovery

 • Strong capability in planning, programming and reporting on maintenance and operational activities
