Your opportunity
We’re seeking a highly skilled and proactive Team Leader Government Relations (AS7) to lead a dynamic team responsible for managing Queensland Rail’s interface with government stakeholders, including responsible Ministers, their offices and departments, and other government agencies.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of ministerial briefings, parliamentary materials, and correspondence, while proactively managing stakeholder relationships and emerging issues across the business.
In this role, you will:
- Lead a team of three Senior Advisers and two Advisers, providing mentoring, guidance, and quality assurance.
- Coordinate and review ministerial briefings, parliamentary responses (PPQs, QoNs), and committee submissions (e.g. Budget Estimates).
- Liaise with responsible Ministers, their advisors, and senior leaders within Queensland Rail to manage emerging issues and ensure timely communication.
- Proactively seek updates across the business to ensure government stakeholders are well informed.
- Engage directly with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and the Group Senior Manager to align on strategic government relations priorities.
- Manage competing priorities and high volumes of sensitive correspondence under tight timeframes.
- Support stakeholder and issues management across Queensland Rail and government interfaces.
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Brisbane CBD. The role offers a starting salary of $151,359 plus 12.75% superannuation, along with hybrid work options to support a healthy work-life balance.

What we’re looking for
- Strong background in government relations, preferably with experience in parliamentary processes.
- Thorough understanding of Cabinet, parliamentary, and government processes, and legislative frameworks.
- Proven leadership and people management skills in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment and experience mentoring and developing team members.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and prioritise emerging issues, ensuring timely and appropriate escalation .
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality, accurate documentation.
