Your Opportunity
Queensland Rail is seeking a Team Leader Self Insurance to oversee the delivery of its Self-Insurance function on a fixed term contract until Mid-June 2026. This role is responsible for leading a team that manages all aspects of work-related injuries, workers compensation, and rehabilitation, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
You will have two senior direct reports who each lead their own specialist areas, supported by a broader team of eight employees. Together, the team plays a vital role in supporting employee wellbeing and driving high performance across injury management and claims.
Role Responsibilities:
- Lead the self-insurance team to deliver empathetic and effective end-to-end management of workers’ compensation claims.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support licence management, including the workers’ compensation regulator and industry bodies.
- Analyse trends and outcomes to ensure Queensland Rail gains financial and non-financial value from its self-insurance licence.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and performance standards to maintain the self-insurance licence in Queensland.
- Identify and manage risks that could impact licence status or regulatory obligations.

About you:
To succeed in this role, you will bring strong leadership and team management experience within a complex and dynamic environment. You have deep expertise in workers’ compensation and injury management, with a focus on delivering positive outcomes for both employees and the business.
You will demonstrate:
- Extensive knowledge of workers compensation legislation, rehabilitation case management and injury management practices.
- Experience managing complex claims and people matters with practical, business-focused strategies.
- Strong stakeholder and contract management skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
- Proven ability to deliver projects aligned with risk, liability and change management principles.
- A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement and driving continuous improvement across systems, processes and service delivery.
Remuneration and Work Arrangement
This is a temporary fixed term contract position until Mid June 2026, located in Brisbane CBD, with a starting base salary of $151,359 plus 12.75% super, along with 50/50 hybrid and flexible work options to support a healthy work-life balance.
