Queensland Rail is currently seeking a driven and technically capable Team Leader – Structures Asset Engineering to lead a team of dedicated engineers in delivering end-to-end engineering solutions for some of the state’s most critical rail infrastructure.

 

This is a rare opportunity to step into a leadership role within a specialist team.

 

About the Role

 

This role will be the first point of contact for allocating engineering resources and supporting the delivery of asset management strategies across a diverse portfolio of structural assets including rail bridges, road overbridges, pedestrian bridges, culverts, tunnels, and retaining structures.

You’ll provide expert guidance to the Structures Asset Manager, Structures Maintenance Manager, and field teams by ensuring technical integrity and safety across both maintenance and new project works.

 

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role, involving:

 

  • Currently managing a team of four engineers plus graduate rotations.
  • Supporting field maintenance teams and conducting site inspections and assigning resources to assist with critical works.
  • Providing subject matter expertise in structures design reviews and project alignment.
  • Guiding strategy for aging structures assets.
  • Collaborating closely with asset owners, designers, and third-party contractors.

 

What you will bring

 

We’re looking for a technically strong and confident engineering professional who thrives in a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment.

 

Essential:

 

  • Proven experience leading complex structural engineering work and providing technical guidance to emerging engineers, ideally within rail, transport, or other complex infrastructure environments
  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles and relevant Australian standards
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering outcomes while influencing and aligning stakeholders across maintenance, project delivery, and asset management functions

 

Skills and experience that will help you thrive in this role:

 

  • Experience working in rail infrastructure or similarly regulated environments
  • Practical experience in construction or on-site delivery
  • Understanding of whole-of-life asset management principles
  • Strong project management capabilities, including task prioritisation and resource coordination

 

Formal qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Structural)
  • Be a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)
  • Hold a valid Driver’s Licence – as this role will require travel by vehicle to various work sites

 

Note: If your qualification was issued overseas, we ask that your degree aligns with the Washington Accord and is assessed by Engineers Australia as meeting the entry-level competency standard for professional engineers within this discipline.

 

Location and Work Environment

 

  • Brisbane location
  • Work across office and on-site environments
  • Standard hours: Monday to Friday 38 hours per week
  • Some weekend work and travel may be required to support project needs and respond to critical events
