About the role
As Technical Director, you will apply deep engineering expertise to oversee technical integration, system interfaces and design governance across Queensland Rail’s Major Projects portfolio.
The role provides senior technical direction by guiding, influencing and supporting technical managers, SMEs, Program Directors and external delivery partners to ensure alignment, safety and interoperability across all stages of program delivery.
You will also serve as the escalation authority for high‑risk technical matters, ensuring decisions are informed by robust engineering assurance and system‑wide integration considerations.
Your contribution
- Provide expert oversight of complex engineering, system integration and technical design issues across major programs.
- Influence strategic decisions through engagement with the Board, CEO, government agencies and delivery partners.
- Offer authoritative advice on design governance, configuration management, standards, interfaces and long‑term system impacts.
- Drive Queensland Rail’s engineering and technical governance frameworks across the program lifecycle.
- Identify, assess and mitigate technical risk, interoperability challenges and system‑wide operational readiness issues.
- Lead operational readiness governance, ensuring ONRSR and ISA expectations are met.
- Promote a culture of strong technical decision‑making, collaboration, safety and system‑wide thinking.
About You
You bring program level leadership excellence, overseeing multi‑system integration, managing technical risk landscapes, and guiding high‑stakes engineering decisions.
You’ll bring:
- Experience providing technical oversight on major rail or infrastructure programs >$500m, including system integration and commissioning.
- Deep engineering, multi-project management, technical integration and configuration management expertise.
- Strong capability in technical risk management and operational readiness across complex programs.
- Well established stakeholder engagement skills, built through sustained collaboration with executive leaders, government stakeholders and key delivery partners.
- You have a proven ability to lead through influence, advising, challenging and supporting technical stakeholders across multiple disciplines, while shaping a culture that unites teams and delivery partners around shared program goals.
- You have proven experience managing and developing technical professionals in a supervisory and/or people leadership capacity, along with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical information to various senior and executive leadership members.
- Hold a Bachelor of Engineering tertiary qualification.
