Purpose That Counts – About the role 

 

You’ll be part of a collaborative engineering team, contributing to the design and documentation of electrical systems that keep the rail network running. Day-to-day, this role is a mix of technical drafting, document management, and learning how projects come together from design through to delivery. 

 

Key responsibilities include: 

 

  • Producing and updating electrical drawings (including overhead/traction power systems) 
  • Supporting design and drafting activities using MicroStation 
  • Managing and maintaining drawing records and documentation (including systems like ProjectWise) 
  • Reviewing contractor drawings and documents to make sure everything aligns 
  • Assisting with inspections, audits, and technical reviews 
  • Working closely with experienced engineers and drafters to build your knowledge 

 

You’ll also have the chance to get involved across the wider power systems teams, gaining exposure to different areas and developing your technical capability over time.

We’re open to a range of experience levels, what matters most is your attitude, willingness to learn, and any relevant experience you bring. 

 

You might be: 

 

  • A professional with around 2 years' experience and eager to continue strengthening your skills 
  • Or someone with broader workplace experience and a foundation in drafting and electrical systems, who enjoys working in this environment and is looking to build and grow in the role over time 

 

We’re looking for someone who: 

 

  • Is keen to be hands on in technical drafting, managing high volumes of documentation and document control, keen interest in developing skills related to electrical infrastructure 
  • Has any level of experience using design and/or drawing management systems (e.g. MicroStation, ProjectWise) is highly regarded 
  • Enjoys working both independently and as part of a team 
  • Is proactive, takes initiative, and once fully settled into the role and QR way of life, is comfortable working with a high level of autonomy 
  • Holds an Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering (or higher)
