About this role:


Working within Queensland Rail’s Major Projects team, the Telecommunications Lead will see you drive innovation, ensuring strong engineering capability and delivering the European Train Control System (ETCS). You’ll provide strategic leadership across design, implementation, testing and commissioning – shaping the future of rail operations. We are currently recruiting for 3 roles all of which are p
ermanent full-time positions based in Brisbane. 

 

Purpose That Counts – Some of the responsibilities of the role:

 

  • Lead delivery of expert telecommunications engineering services (ETCS DRS, Cyber, CSN, Infrastructure) across all project phases, ensuring scope, quality, safety, budget, and timelines are met.
  • Drive commercial outcomes by coaching teams to manage stakeholders effectively and communicate with impact.
  • Foster innovation and business improvements through technology development and team leadership.
  • Ensure integrity and compliance in all telecommunications engineering outputs to meet operational requirements.
  • Provide professional engineering guidance and monitor compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships to support effective strategies and governance.
  • Promote achievement of project objectives and deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Collaborate with CRR/ETCS Operational Readiness group to align telecommunications initiatives and provide expert advice.
  • Project budgeting and forecasting

  • Expertise in design, renewals, implementation, testing, and commissioning of telecommunications infrastructure (ETCS DRS, Cyber, CSN).
  • Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams and technical officers.
  • Strong track record in delivering commercially focused telecommunications solutions that add value.
  • Skilled in coaching multi-disciplinary teams to achieve sustainable outcomes in complex regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive business improvements, technology development, and innovation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statutory, regulatory, and policy obligations, with a focus on safety and compliance.
  • Hold a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and be Professional Engineering (QLD) Registered
