Your Opportunity
As a self-insured employer, Queensland Rail manages Workers' Compensation claims in accordance with legislation, policies, procedures and standards. We currently have a great opportunity for a Workers' Compensation Claims Adviser to join our Health and Wellbeing team to manage workers’ compensation claims for the organisation.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
- Manage end-to-end statutory workers’ compensation claims to ensure timely, compliant, and person-centred outcomes in accordance with legislation and self-insurance standards.
- Determine claim liability by assessing worker statements, medical evidence, and investigation reports, consulting with the Senior Claims Adviser on complex claims to support fair and defensible decisions.
- Ensure a person-centred approaches that support early, safe, and sustainable recovery outcomes.
- Engage internal and external stakeholders, including leaders, medical practitioners, and allied health providers, to facilitate effective treatment, remove barriers to recovery, and achieve optimal return-to-work outcomes.
- Provide data and insights to support claims reviews, inform claim strategies, and assist with effective cost management.
- Maintaining appropriate skills and training in line with licence and regulatory requirements and keeping abreast of all changes to legislation relevant to the management and processing of Workers’ Compensation claims
- Assisting in the management of common law claims.

What you can bring to the role:
- High level of skill in the application of Workers’ Compensation claims management strategies, preferably in a self-insured environment;
- Extensive knowledge of Workers' Compensation and subordinate Legislation as it applies to statutory claims and common law claims and injury management;
- High level of skill in investigation and interview techniques in Workers’ Compensation claims management in a self-insured environment;
- Substantial analytical and decision-making skills;
- Substantial interpersonal, oral and written communication skills as well as being a team player
- Experience in SIMS is highly desirable
Hours and Salary
This is a permanent position, based in Brisbane CBD, with a starting base salary of $117,750 plus up to 12.75% superannuation.
