Our Rollingstock Maintenance team currently has an exciting opportunity for a dual trade Electrical/Mechanical Maintainer to join their team based in Cairns for a fixed term fulltime role until September 2026. This position is responsible for providing a safe, efficient and reliable electrical and mechanical service to the Kuranda Scenic Railway Operations and others of the Travel & Tourism Maintenance Depot, Portsmith.

 

Position Responsibilities of this role will include, but are not limited to;

 

  • Contribute to safety, reliability and availability of Traveltrain rollingstock by performance of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, complex fault finding and repairs on rollingstock and associated components and equipment in an efficient manner.
  • Contribute towards the Kuranda Scenic Railway Carriage overhaul and refurbishment programs in accordance with relevant procedures and instructions.
  •  Assist in derailment and accident situations
  • Work as part of a team with other Maintainers and Presentation Attendants to accomplish maintenance and presentation objectives as efficiently as possible.

 

Position Description

 

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must have the following:

 

  • Hold a current manual ‘C’ class driver’ licence
  • Electrical Mechanical Fitter License
  • Ideally also hold Engineering Trade Certificate 3 Mechanical or equivalent
  • A strong work ethic and ability to work efficiently as part of team
  • A strong commitment to safe working practices and zero harm

 

The successful candidate must have the flexibility to work weekends, public holidays and work and travel across the district when required.

  • Expected base annual salary of $108,000
  • Generous superannuation of up to 17.75%
  • Position based at the Portsmith Depot in Cairns
  • 8-day fortnight working through a 8 week rotating roster– shift work across 3 alternate shift providing work / life balance.
