Your opportunity
As a Station Assistant (Rotational), you will be required to play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation across Cairns, Freshwater and Kuranda Station. You will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, cleaning general cleaning duties and contributing to a positive and safe environment. The Station Team consists of eight other team members, three of which are also rotational. You will also work closely with our on-board teams which consist of approximately 18 team members.
This is a permanent full-time position.

Purpose that Counts. As a Station Assistant (Rotational) some of your duties will include:
- General cleaning and maintenance duties of the station, station toilets, gardens and facilities
- Working with the team to manage luggage check in and loading procedures. This may include loading and unloading of prams, wheelchairs, luggage or boxes
- Making platform announcements and actively managing platform operations
- Providing exceptional customer service to travelling customers and the local community
- Operating station machinery and equipment
- Reporting any safety concerns to the Station Master or Operation Coordinator
- Perform Signal Cabin Duties at Kuranda Station (from time to time, or as required)
Roster/Hours
This is a full-time position where you will generally work 7.6 hours per shift across the hours of 05:15 to 20:06. You can expect to be on a roster which will include a variety of start and finish times as well as weekends and public holidays, so flexibility is required in this position.
We are seeking to connect with someone who ideally will have:
- The ability to work autonomously but also within a team environment.
- Strong communication skills coupled with a customer focused attitude to ensure a positive experience with customers.
- Sound computer skills.
- A strong work ethic and willingness to go the ‘extra mile’.
- A safety conscious attitude.
- Resilience and ability to self-motivate.
- Ability to undertake a variety of manual handling tasks including cleaning, performing signal cabin duties (Kuranda Station only) and the lifting of heavy luggage up to 20 kilograms.
- Previous experience with cleaning, gardening or shift work is highly desirable
