As an Electrical Apprentice within our City Train Light and Heavy Maintenance team based at Mayne Depot (Bowen Hills) you’ll contribute to our proud legacy, and help us build an even brighter, more sustainable future - and that means incredible things for your career.
Our Apprentice Opportunities:
In this apprenticeship you will have:
- Hands-on Training: Gaining practical and theoretical experience maintaining, testing, programming and repairing various train components such as electrical wiring systems, brake controls, motors, transformers, electronic systems and components.
- Learning from Experienced Technicians: Mentorship and guidance from skilled rollingstock electrical maintainers and rollingstock electronics and systems maintainers.
- Exposure to Advanced Technologies: Working with modern diagnostic tools and equipment, programming systems, and maintenance software. Retrieve and interpret data from train management system Event Recorders and CCTV systems for maintenance analysis and investigations.
- Diverse Work Environments: Experience across different types of rollingstock and maintenance groups.
- Skill Development: Building technical, problem-solving, and safety management skills through on the job, formal and informal training.
- Cross-Functional Experience: Collaborating with other departments such as operations, safety, and engineering.
As an Apprentice you will need:
- Safety Consciousness Attitude: Always prioritizes safety and understands the importance of safe operation, able to identify hazards, report them, implement immediate controls, and suggest rectifications.
- Willingness to Learn: Eagerness to absorb new knowledge, ask questions, and take on challenges.
- Positive Attitude: Approaches tasks with enthusiasm and stays optimistic, even when faced with setbacks.
- Reliability: Shows up on time as per roster including weekends and night works, follows through on commitments, and takes responsibility for their actions.
- Attention to Detail: Takes care to do tasks correctly and thoroughly, especially in safety-critical or technical work.
- Be a Team Player: Works well with others, communicates effectively, and respects different perspectives. Able to readily adapt as you periodically rotate through different teams to gain greater knowledge and experience.
- Initiative: Looks for ways to proactively contribute, improve processes, and solve problems.
- Resilience: Can handle feedback, adapt to change, and keeps going when things get tough.
- Work Ethic: Demonstrates dedication, effort, and a strong sense of responsibility in their role.
