Your Opportunity:

We are seeking a dedicated Electrical Control Operator to join our team in a permanent capacity. In this critical role, you will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the integrity of the high-voltage traction power supply system.

Your focus will be on ensuring safe and reliable operation, promptly identifying faults and irregularities, and coordinating effective fault rectification activities.

 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Supervise/carry out safe operations on high voltage power supply equipment and overhead line equipment.
  • Monitor the distribution network for efficient and effective operation and identify and locate supply faults, irregularities and potential system and operational limitations.
  • Control and carry out scheduled and non-scheduled system shutdowns for emergency and maintenance action on the high voltage traction system including authorisation of the issue of permits to work.
  • Coordinate and monitor repair and maintenance actions and on completion ensure reinstatement of traction power supply.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to Field Supervisors and operatives to ensure safe and effective operation of the high voltage traction power supply system including liaison with Train Controllers, supervisors and external authorities.
  • Maintain the diagrams and procedures as well as the control room log accurately and write reports and enter appropriate information into the computer systems.
  • Monitor all systems for the optimal usage of the Overhead Traction system.


To be successful you must be able to demonstrate the following: 

  • High level of skill in analysing symbolic/diagrammatic information and applying it to effectively operate the system and to respond to fault indications.
  • High level of communication skills.
  • Substantial knowledge of electrical and overhead traction systems.
  • Substantial skill in deciding actions quickly and appropriately using own initiative and in conjunction with others.
  • Substantial planning and organising skills.
  • Substantial skill in following and interpreting established procedures.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to commit to and work within Queensland Rail's Values and Behaviours.
