Queensland Rail are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Rollingstock Specialist Engineering team, based in Brisbane.
This role reports to the Principal Electrical Engineer – Traction and Control Systems and is responsible for providing high-level technical support and specialist advice on the safe operation and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment across Queensland Rail’s rolling stock fleet. The position works closely with Rollingstock Maintenance teams and key stakeholders to ensure ongoing fleet reliability, safety, and performance.

What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll provide expert technical advice and support for the operation and management of Queensland Rail’s rolling stock fleet, with a focus on traction and control systems. Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating traction and control system issues to improve fleet safety, reliability, and availability.
- Developing scopes of work, specifications, and technical documentation for new acquisitions, modifications, and projects.
- Providing technical management and oversight on rolling stock projects.
- Conducting audits, investigations, and compliance assessments against Queensland Rail standards and relevant legislation.
- Assisting the Principal Engineer with work scopes, designs, and documents to enhance component reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
- Setting standards for the design, maintenance, and overhaul of electrical equipment within the fleet.
What you’ll bring
To succeed in this role, you’ll have strong experience/knowledge in Traction and Control Systems Engineering, along with the technical capability and problem-solving skills to support both operational and project outcomes.
- Proven experience conducting compliance assessments for rolling stock or similar heavy vehicle and related projects against technical and safety standards.
- Strong investigative skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex traction and control system issues.
- Experience supporting design reviews, testing, commissioning, and acceptance processes for electrical and electronic systems.
- The ability to develop clear, detailed scopes of work, technical specifications, and engineering designs.
- Sound technical knowledge of how rolling stock or similar systems interface with infrastructure, including traction power supply and signalling systems, and the ability to provide advice and solutions in these areas.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Washington Accord accredited/Engineers Australia assessed/certified).
