About the Role
Queensland Rail is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the performance and optimisation of Regional Passenger rollingstock within our Rollingstock Maintenance team.
You will play a key role in the Diesel Tilt Train overhaul program, ensuring engineering requirements are delivered to standard and resolving issues identified throughout the overhaul. Core responsibilities include resolving technical queries, providing production and inventory support, overseeing quality assurance, managing modifications, conducting testing, preparing technical reports and maintaining accurate engineering records to ensure safe and reliable fleet performance.
Purpose That Counts – Some of the responsibilities of the role:
- Provide technical expertise to support the maintenance and operation of rollingstock, including conducting engineering investigations, testing, data analysis and delivering recommendations to improve reliability and performance
- Develop and maintain technical documentation such as scopes of work, specifications, procedures and design drawings to support rollingstock and plant maintenance activities
- Lead and support safety, reliability and cost improvement initiatives, including rollingstock modifications, overhauls and maintenance projects, while liaising with stakeholders, contractors and operational teams
- Deliver technical support, audits and performance reporting across servicing facilities, while mentoring and coaching engineers and utilising maintenance management systems to drive continuous improvement

- Strong technical expertise in rollingstock operation, maintenance and overhaul, supporting programs such as the Diesel Tilt Train to ensure delivery meets required standards and specifications
- Proven ability to improve reliability and performance through quality improvement principles, maintenance strategies, modifications and effective problem-solving during overhaul and maintenance activities
- Advanced skills in technical investigations, testing, fault finding and failure analysis, with experience in resolving technical queries, supporting production and inventory, and delivering clear reports and records
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience across technical teams and suppliers, supporting quality assurance, continuous improvement and overall maintenance outcomes
