As the Onboard Services Technician you will play an integral role in ensuring that the optimal standard of service to Queensland Rail customers by maintaining the reliability and effective operation of all onboard service equipment. This will include fault finding, trouble shooting and rectifying problems with equipment or the power car.

 

You will join a team that consists of four experienced Onboard Services Technicians however whilst on board you will be the only technician so you will need the ability to work autonomously. 


As this position is based at Platform 10 Roma Street, you will primarily work on board the Spirit of the Outback (Brisbane to Longreach) and the Westlander (Brisbane to Charleville) where you can expect to be away for up to 4 days at any given time. 


Roles / Hours

The Onboard Services Technician position is a permanent full-time opportunity however it is not on a linked roster. This means that you can expect to find out your roster one week in advance so flexibility with hours is key in this role. If you are not rostered to work on board the train as a technician you will be given training so that you can assist with Passenger Attendant duties (customer service, checking tickets) onboard or Station Assistant duties (customer service, general cleaning duties) at Platform 10 Roma Street. 


It is a 24x7 operation where you will be required to work a variety of start and finish times which will include weekends, public holidays and overnight shifts on a rotating roster.

  • starting base annual salary is $94,000 (inc. electrical licence allowance) + 12.75% super. However, after including applicable allowances (travel, away from home, meals, call out, weekend and public holiday work) a Onboard Services Technician can earn up to approximately $140,000 + 12.75% super

About the role: 

  • Manage the power car (air conditioning and lighting) and ensure the equipment (air conditioning, water, lighting and catering equipment) is reliable 
  • Monitor train cleanliness and the operation of all in service equipment, taking immediate action to address any faults.
  • Report equipment faults and problems to the Passenger Services Supervisor and document in relevant logs.
  • Maintain and operate train electrical supply equipment in a safe and correct manner.
  • Provide electrical supply connections to train consists at depots, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Assist with passenger baggage loading and unloading.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Passenger Services Supervisor.

We are seeking to connect with someone who ideally has:

  • resilience and adaptability
  • the ability to work autonomously and within a wider team environment
  • previous experience in diagnosing and repairing transport air conditioning systems and diesel-powered electrical generating power supply systems
  • demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service 
  • strong interpersonal and oral communication skills 
  • an ability to think on your feet to rectify faults and respond to the unexpected 
  • a safety conscious attitude


Candidates will need to hold the following qualification to be considered: 

  • Electric Fitter and Mechanic Licence  


Candidates will also need to hold or be willing to obtain the below certificates prior to employment

  • Advanced resuscitation 
  •  Provide basic emergency life support
  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • Low voltage rescue
