About the Role

 

Based at our Townsville depot, this is a great opportunity to join a team of dedicated Signalling Engineers supporting Queensland Rail’s regional operations.

 

You’ll play a key role in delivering high-level technical expertise across our signalling systems and infrastructure, helping to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of our network.

 

In this role, you’ll be responsible for:

 

  • Providing engineering support and safety advice to internal stakeholders and project teams.
  • Investigating signalling faults and failures, including conducting root cause analysis.
  • Conducting asset inspections and supporting maintenance strategies.
  • Supporting the commissioning of signalling upgrades, including Level Crossing improvements.

With 5,700km of track across regional Queensland, your work will directly contribute to the resilience and efficiency of our rail network. You could be involved in projects such as:

 

  • Kuranda Range Stabilisation (Cairns): Accessing remote track sections via helicopter to deliver crucial geotechnical upgrades.
  • Central West Bridge Program: Replacing 16 critical bridges and repairing another 44 across western Queensland
  • Portsmith Level Crossing Upgrade (Cairns): Part of a broader upgrade program covering 18 regional crossings.
  • Townsville to Cairns Track Renewal: A multi-stage upgrade to improve reliability and safety.
  • Toowoomba Range Slope Stabilisation: Major earthworks to improve network resilience.
  • Statewide Disaster Recovery Projects: Responding to and rebuilding after severe weather and natural events.

 

 What You’ll Bring

 

To be considered, you’ll need a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronic) or be nearing completion of your studies.

 

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:

 

  • A sound understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to solve practical problems.
  • Working knowledge of computer control systems and engineering software tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports and documentation.
  • An interest in rail signalling systems and a proactive attitude to learning in a safety-focused environment.
