The Heritage Assets team here at Queensland Rail currently have a permanent, full-time vacancy for a Mechanical Fitter based in Ipswich, QLD. For this role, you will need to have your trade certification as a Mechanical Fitter & Turner.

 

Position Purpose


To work effectively as a member of a workgroup safely manufacturing, repairing and overhauling heritage rollingstock, workshop plant and equipment and associated components in accordance with the requirements of Queensland Rail and the Workplace Health and Safety Act.


Position Responsibilities


1. Perform complex trouble shooting, fault rectification duties, repairs, modifications and preventative maintenance procedures on rollingstock, components and associated equipment to meet the operational requirements of the QR Heritage Rollingstock Fleet.
2. Contribute to the work output of the workgroup by carrying out duties in a team environment (either individually or in a team), planning own work, taking responsibilities for work outcomes and identifying productivity improvements.
3. Maintain workshop, plant and equipment including installing pipe work.
4. Provide for the day-to-day operation and be accountable for the continual improvement of service provided to meet customer requirements.
5. Participate in additional training as required to maintain competencies relevant to the manufacture, maintenance and overhaul of heritage rollingstock equipment and associated components.
6. Ensure safe working practices are adhered to and relevant work standards are met in accordance with Queensland Rail's policies, procedures, work instructions and legislative requirements.
7. Perform general duties as directed by the various Managers and Supervisors (including cleaning duties).
8. Utilise and input accurate data into information and maintenance management systems.

 

Key selection criteria


1. Substantial level of skill in the manufacture, repair, maintenance and overhaul of rollingstock, plant, equipment, buildings and associated components.
2. Sound knowledge of the requirements of Queensland Rail policies, rules, regulations and procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Act and Environmental Policies.
3. Sound skill in the interpretation of technical instructions and drawings.
4. Sound skill in working within a workgroup with minimal supervision.
5. Sound interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
6. Knowledge of and willingness to commit to and work within Queensland Rail's Values and Behaviours.
