Queensland Rail, a statutory authority with more than $11.3 billion in assets and a network extending over 6,600 kilometres, plays a critical role in delivering safe, reliable and sustainable rail services across Queensland. As we mark 160 years of connecting communities, we are seeking an experienced and technically strong accounting professional to lead our Fixed Assets Team on a nine‑month temporary basis.

 

We have an exciting contract opportunity for a Manager Fixed Assets to join the Queensland Rail Financial control team.

 

About the Role

The Manager Fixed Assets leads Queensland Rail’s Fixed Assets Team, ensuring the integrity of the Fixed Assets Register, the appropriateness of depreciation charges and useful lives, the accurate and timely transfer of Assets under Construction and compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Government Owned Corporation reporting requirements.

 

You will oversee all accounting aspects for complex assets, including fair value revaluations, indexation programs, tax asset reporting and salvage value reporting within a Fixed Assets Register maintained on a historical cost basis with fair value adjustments. Continuous improvement of the fixed asset environment will also form an important part of the role. This position forms part of the Financial Control leadership team and reports to the Group Financial Controller.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the accuracy, governance and operational integrity of the Fixed Assets Register ensuring compliance with policy, legislation, tax requirements and Australian Accounting Standards related to property, plant and equipment and fair value measurement.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of asset capitalisation ensuring complete, accurate and timely transfer of Assets under Construction.
  • Manage the annual fair value revaluation and indexation program and prepare compliant year‑end schedules.
  • Provide authoritative technical advice on historical cost, fair value, tax values and salvage value methodologies.
  • Lead structured continuous improvement initiatives across fixed asset processes, systems and controls.
  • Influence and collaborate with stakeholders across Finance, Lines of Business, Projects and Asset Management Teams to improve data quality and strengthen processes.
  • Prepare high‑quality analysis and reporting to support internal decision making and external reporting obligations, including asset‑related tax reporting.
  • Lead and develop the Fixed Assets team to deliver strong technical and governance outcomes.

 

About You

We are seeking a highly experienced and suitably qualified specialist with a demonstrated track record in fixed asset financial governance within large, capital‑intensive and complex organisations. To be considered, you must be able to demonstrate:

 

  • Extensive experience managing large, infrastructure‑heavy fixed asset registers within complex organisational environments, with responsibility for ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance.
  • Strong technical capability in Australian Accounting Standards applying to property, plant and equipment and fair value measurement, consistent with Government Owned Corporation reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SAP ECC for fixed asset and project accounting, including Assets under Construction, capitalisation processes, revaluations and operation of multibook structures (historical cost, fair value, tax and salvage).
  • Proven ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives, including redesign of end‑to‑end fixed asset processes, system enhancements and control uplift.
  • Strong stakeholder influence and engagement capability, with the ability to drive outcomes across Finance, Lines of Business, Projects and Asset Management in a disciplined governance environment.
  • High level analytical capability, with the ability to interpret, and communicate complex financial information and asset data clearly and accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to Queensland Rail’s values and behaviours.

 

A relevant tertiary degree in accounting or commerce is required, and CA or CPA membership is highly regarded.

 

Remuneration & Employment Type
This is a fixed term full-time opportunity until 9th October 2026 based at Brisbane CBD office, offering a competitive remuneration package.
