As Principal Traction Maintenance Engineer, you’ll lead the provision of expert technical and safety support for the operation, use, and maintenance of our 25/50kV Traction Overhead System. This is your opportunity to shape asset strategy, ensure compliance, and drive safety across one of the state’s most critical rail infrastructure systems.

 

About the Role

 

In this pivotal role, you will lead a team of technical specialists, providing engineering leadership and safety advice across Queensland Rail’s traction power network. You’ll develop and implement asset and process audit regimes, ensuring compliance with QR standards and contributing to long-term investment planning.

You’ll also collaborate across teams and projects, supporting activities that interface with Network SEQ and influencing asset development strategies.

You’ll also have the opportunity to influence major projects including:

 

  • Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail Project
  • Queensland Train Manufacturing Program
  • The Wave Project

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and provide technical support for maintenance and operational services for traction power equipment and systems
  • Interpret QR standards and Traction Operating Procedures to mandate compliance frameworks
  • Approve and accept construction and repair activities on behalf of SMTP
  • Provide safety advice for work near 25/50kV trackside power equipment
  • Develop and maintain technical and safety auditing and inspection programs
  • Investigate faults and incidents, including electrical and maintenance-related events
  • Assess investment needs and contribute to traction network investment strategies
  • Perform and supervise electrical testing, modifications, and work
  • Mentor and coach engineers to maximise team performance and development

 

What We’re Looking For

 

We’re seeking a highly experienced and qualified engineering leader who brings:

 

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
  • RPEQ registration
  • Proven ability to investigate traction power incidents
  • Leadership experience in managing technical teams and delivering asset management outcomes

 

Position Description

 

Remuneration and Work Arrangement

 

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Brisbane CBD, offering a competitive salary package. Relocation support is available if required. The base salary begins at $160,991, with the final offer to be determined based on the experience of the successful candidate.
