Your opportunity

The Authorised Officer Unit helps ensure the safety and security of Queensland Rail’s network and passengers by patrolling trains and stations. Using conflict resolution skills and legislative powers, they manage antisocial, inappropriate, and potentially criminal behaviour.

 

In addition to safety responsibilities, the role also involves providing customer service and acting as a key interface between Queensland Rail and the communities we serve.  

 

  • Assist passengers with general enquiries.
  • Issue infringement notices or take appropriate action when necessary.
  • Effectively de-escalate situations and communicate with members of the public, including individuals experiencing mental health challenges or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Manage and respond to antisocial, inappropriate, or potentially criminal behaviour, using conflict resolution skills to defuse situations that may pose a risk to safety.
  • Maintain high-quality written records of events

We are looking to connect with someone who has:

  • Exceptional customer service skills with a strong focus on positive engagement
  • Proven ability to de-escalate conflicts and manage challenging situations effectively
  • Excellent situational awareness and quick decision-making abilities
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to engage with customers, TransLink, Queensland Rail, Police, and the wider public
  • Ability to perform confidently and calmly under high-pressure conditions
  • Demonstrated capability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and legislation accurately
  • Keen attention to detail with the judgment to make fair and justifiable decisions in dynamic environments

Remuneration and Work Arrangement

  • Starting base salary approximately $85,000 + 12.75% superannuation + regular penalty rates
  • Paid training and ongoing support to develop your career
  • 5 weeks annual leave per year
  • Rotating roster (with penalty rates) including weekends, nights, and public holidays
  • Based at Roma Street, with work conducted across multiple Queensland Rail locations.
